About the Instructor:
Alicia McDaniel is currently the Manager for the City of Denton’s North Lakes Recreation Center as well as the Recreation Fitness Program Supervisor. Alicia has a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science. She holds several certifications including Certified Personal Trainer. More so, she has over 20 years as a fitness educator.

DJ Spin-Off. DJ’s will spin playlist for a given amount time in their original artistic fashion. The winner will receive a cash prize.

Community Discussion – Food Deserts.  Vanessa Ellison presents on Denton’s oldest communities and food deserts. 

Storytime.  Denton Public Library will provide a segment featuring appropriate African American history books targeting children.

Discussion of Juneteenth’s Origin.  Pre-taped discussion of popular myths that surround Juneteenth.

Talent Show.  Video of local youth (elementary through high school) performing a variety of talents.

Poetry Slam. Video of poets performing a variety of original poems 4- 5 minutes each.

Healthy & Free.  30-minute workout video promoting physical movement featuring Alicia McDaniel, North Lakes Rec. Center.

Virtual Freedom Run. Opportunity to allow runners to run/walk around Denton. Certificates awarded.

Hometown Heroes.  Event honoring COACHES who contribute to the Unity in the Community.  Any Denton citizen may nominate honorees via the Juneteenth website.  In place of a recognition program, information and photo about each honoree will be recorded an assembled into a program and posted on the website.

Juneteenth Parade.  The parade will be a citywide treasure hunt game.  During a designated timeslot, parade units will roam about the city.  Viewers are challenged to photograph as many units as can be found and post pictures on social media.  A geographic area will be andesignated.

 Vendors.  All vendors may advertise in the program book and on the celebration website.  Each vendor must create his/her own video to be aired during, before and/or after the celebration.  Advertisements maybe purchased for the Juneteenth Program book. See website for prices.

Major entertainers.  All entertainers previously scheduled are being asked to submit videotapes of their performance.

Coloring Contest. Youth are asked to color a photo of a famous African American and submit the entry for the Coloring Contest.

T-shirt Design Contest.  Entry will be acknowledged on the website. Winner will be asked to submit photo and no more than a 3-line description of design.  Winner receives $50 at the 2021 celebration.  

Featured Family.  Family will be mentioned on website and featured in annual program book.

Yard Sign Decoration Contest. Any person can decorate a yard sign which will be  displayed leading to the celebration.

Annual Program Book.   Book will continue as usual but presented in two different formats, a small modified electronic version   followed by a full book printed after the celebration and distributed during numerous celebrations as well as on social media and radio promotions. Sponsors will receive a copy for their archives.

Sponsorship. Opportunity for individuals, organizations and corporations to celebrate by giving.  For tax purposes,  payments are made to Denton Parks Foundation.
